4 months old

Travis turned 4 months old today!

I can not believe this kid is growing so fast.  We had to go to the pediatrician for his shots and I saw a little 5 day old baby in the waiting room... I almost can't remember T being that small.   I can't imagine what I'll think of him in 4 more months - I'll probably say, "look how little he was!"

For now, I think he's a mighty big boy.  He is full of coos and goos and aaahhhs and is just a good kid all around.  We got so lucky with this one.  He's rolling and laughing and loves to cuddle.  I wish I could bottle him up and keep him this age forever.  He can almost sit up - still pretty wobbly, but he manages to do a good forward flop :)   We're starting to style his hair a little differently too.  I got so many "compliments" about his comb-over that I took some clippers to him and now he's sporting a shorter style.  It's all cleaned up in the back too - no more mullet!  YAY!  I love him so much and am so proud to be his mama.

As of 4.27.12 Travis weighs 15.5 lbs, has a 16.54 inch head, and is 25.5 inches long. He's just about to transition into 9mo clothes! BIG BOY!

Roll out!

Just wanted to share a little video...

Travis has been rockin' and rolling quite a bit lately - so much so, it's kinda tricky to get on camera.. he's quick!!   He first rolled on 4-3-12 but we're really starting to see him in action now!

ENJOY!

Miss Avery & SMA

I stumbled across this blog about a little girl named Avery.  Her mom and I went to high school together and our kids are only a month apart in age.  We actually saw each other, both pregnant, at our 10-year reunion in San Antonio last summer.

At the beginning of April, Avery was diagnosed with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy).  It is the #1 genetic killer of infants and children under the age of 2, but I had never heard of it until I started reading about Avery's story.  SMA is a degenerative genetic disease that slowly paralyzes a child until they lose the ability to use their limbs.  It affects their major organs, respiratory system, and it will eventually cause Avery to die.

Laura and Avery

Avery has an amazing bucket list of all the things she wants to do in this life.  Her parents are documenting their journey every step of the way but are most focused on spreading awareness of SMA.

I thought, "I can help!"

My little blog doesn't have a whole lot of followers, but I hope to create some awareness in a group of people who may not know Laura and her family.  We can all help prevent another child from being born with SMA.

Things I find baffling about this disease:
1.  One in 40 people carry the gene (that's pretty common!)
2.  SMA testing isn't currently in the "docket" of pre-screening tests that doctors run when a woman gets pregnant, but it is an OPTION.  All you have to do is ask for it.
3.  There are next to no clinical research studies currently being done for a cure.
Why not!? Smart grad students everywhere looking for a thesis project - pick this one!

I want you to read about SMA.  It breaks my heart that they're going through this, but somehow they're trying to make this very scary disease fun and incredibly informative.  They are making a huge dent in their mission to spread awareness - three days ago BabyCenter started a campaign to send Avery a thousand smiles and they're well on their way! Why don't you send her one too?  I can't imagine if this was Travis - how I would react... if I could handle it.

Watch more about Avery here.
...

Join me in celebrating Miss Avery while we can.  Cheer her on and if you can give something to help make her bucket list more complete, please do so.

Laura and Mike - I would like to gift you 2 round trip flights on Southwest, to anywhere they fly.  Kids fly free if they're under 2 years old so Avery can just sit in your lap!  I hope this helps her get closer to one of her bucket list destinations!  Just let me know where you want to go and when, and I'll book it for you.

ode to the cold.

I have an ear infection.

Jason is sick with overactive allergies.

We're taking Travis to the doctor tomorrow - he is happy and eating like a champ, but the poor kid has got some funk in his tiny little chest and has a nasty cough.  Gonna get it checked out.

The Bagley house is full of snot, used tissues, tons of Tylenol, my new friend Amoxicillan, sneezing, coughing... it is a bit yucky.

I want sleep.
I need it.
I miss is so much.
I can't lie down because my nose is so drainy and sore that it literally hurts my throat to breathe.

UGH.

I remember once saying complaining is for weenies.

Call me a weenie.

Gotye

Can't get this one out of my head... it's been there for weeks so I thought I should share.

It gives me a little happy Genesis/Peter Gabriel vibe that I can't get over.

easter

I've been a complete slacker with this blog... mostly because I started back to work 2 weeks ago and am throwing a big conference on Tuesday, and also because my first week back I was getting no more than 5 hours of sleep a day.  Anyway, excuses are for weenies.

So here's my quickie post:

I love easter.  Especially as there are more and more kids in my life, I adore the pure joy kids find in searching for an egg that the easter bunny left behind.  Obviously, Travis is a bit too little for this kind of crazy fun, but we did get to see my nieces, Lauren and Kaitlyn go coo coo for easter eggs today at Nana and Papa's house in San Antonio.  It was awesome.  On our way home, Jason, Travis and I stopped to smell the roses... well, not really the roses, but the bluebonnets.

This kid makes taking photos too much fun.

He's a giggler :) Especially when his daddy tickles him.

Okay, I think this one is my favorite...

It's the tongue.

LOVE IT.

Love you Jesus.  Thanks for coming back buddy.  I got to tell my kid all about you today :) That was cool.
