Star Quilt - Part 4

I'm almost done with the star quilt top... it needs borders but I have no energy to put them on.  

Maybe tomorrow.  

Probably not, it's a doctor day and doctor days make me tired.  

The borders will be the same light cream linen that is surrounding the stars... I think I'm going to make it 6 or so inches wide. Jason wants me to make them REALLY big, but I'm a bit intimidated already by the size of this quilt and the fact that my little machine is going to have quite a time quilting it all.  

So here she is... another step closer: 

Seeing these pictures makes me really notice how much we need a headboard.  One day. One day. 

Okay, I'm going to bed.  

I got 2 1/2 hours of sleep last night and have been feeling hungover nauseous all day.  

Hopefully these boys will give it a break and stop kicking/stretching into my hip joints and lungs long enough for me to get a couple more hours.  

I'll update tomorrow on the baby progress.

Star Quilt Update

This quilt is a LONG way from being done, but tonight I made a big dent in assembling the parts.  

This is my first shot at sashing and I love it.  Not only does it make the quilt bigger, but I like how it frames up the stars.  Those little suckers took a lot of work, so it's nice to have them kind of "on display" 

I'm tuckered out and am off to bed.

Star Quilt - Part 2

An update on my weekend project...

I've been working on my star quilt off and on all day and I was able to finish 12 blocks!  I'm going to have to do some fancy measuring to figure out how many more I will need if I plan to put it on a bed... maybe 8?  I need a break tonight - well, my back really needs a break so for now I'm calling it a night.  This big belly can't take 2 super late nights in a row. 

Next up:

1. Make more blocks. 

2.  Make a border for around each block 

(sashing? I may be using that term wrong?) 

3.  Then, maybe a big border around the edge

4.  Then measure and cut the back & batting

5.  Then the darting 

6.  THEN the quilting - which I've decided I'm going to do with a machine. 

 I would love to do it by hand, but I know I would never finish it.  

7.  Then the binding 

(I'm worried about this part since I've never done anything like that) 

I'm such a new quilter that I don't even know if I got the order of those steps right!

That's a long list of "to do's" so it'll be a while before we see much more progress but I have definitely enjoyed it thus far :) Oh, and I've got to buy more fabric. I don't know what color I'm going to do the border in yet - I'm thinking a linen-ish grey/brown.  

Can you tell I'm very inspired by Valentine's Day?  

I've never been a pink girl, but this borders on coral and I just love the star fabric. 

I think I'll do just about anything to avoid doing my taxes :)

Star Quilt

I'm starting a quilt.  I decided at 10 o'clock tonight that it was the perfect time to try something new (what?!) and here is what I came up with...

I accidentally put the wrong color piece on the inside of the star, so I'll end up ripping this one and redoing that part, but I pieced together enough tonight for 6 more!  And, I'm tired :) 

My neighbor Ramie and I are taking a quilting class next week, so I got a jump start on practicing.
